Anne of Green Gables
Anne is an 11 year old orphan. Red hair, freckled face. Anne is innocent, very chatty and has a high imagination.
Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert were unmarried brothers. One day they wanted to adopt a boy so he could help with Matthew's chores on the farm. They asked Mrs. Spencer to find a boy at an orphanage. When Matthew was about to pick up the boy at the station, he found a girl. Matthew asked the station attendant if he had seen a boy, and there was no boy. Finally the shy Matthew takes Anne home in the Bugi buggy. Throughout the trip Anne did not stop babbling. The quiet Matthew didn't mind at all, in fact Matthew already liked Anne, somehow Marilla's reaction when she found out that it wasn't a boy she would think about later.
When Marilla got home, of course, she was shocked, and she couldn't hide her surprise. This saddened Anne, all her imaginations of having a new governess, and living at Green Gables shattered. Green Gables is the name of Matthew and Marilla's house which is located in the village of Avonlea. Anne is already in love with Green Gables. Anne was sent to bed at once and Marilla was going to see Mrs. Spencer the next morning, there may be a mistake.
Marilla could see that Matthew though he didn't say much wanted to keep Anne. When Anne and Marilla arrived at Mrs. Spencer and asked for an explanation, Mrs. Spencer provided a solution that Anne would give to someone else. Seeing Anne's expression and knowing who would be taking care of her later, Marilla could not bear to give up Anne and decided to adopt Anne anyway.
Yes, that's how Anne ended up living at Green Gables. He attended school and became friends with Diana Barry. Anne is a cheerful child. Even though she never said it, Marilla grew to love Anne very much. It was different from Matthew who had liked Anne from the start. Anne's presence, with all her recklessness, her goofiness, her innocence, enlivened the atmosphere at Green Gables.
